“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
The second amendment is in the Bill of Rights, and obviously one of the first ten amendments. It was put into the Constitution on December 15, 1791 and it was written by James Madison. In this amendment, when it states, “the rights of the people” it means that something that is given to someone and could not be taken away from the people. “To keep and bear arms” means that the people have the right to possess, carry, train with, and use the weapon if needed. And lastly, “shall not be infringed,” explains how no one can limit, or take away this right. The second amendments is very important and was put into the Bill of Rights so that people could hunt food at the time of adding it. It was also formed because people needed to protect themselves from a tyrannical government. The people wanted to make sure that if the government started to take the rights from the people, they could protect themselves. This amendment is very important, it has been debated throughout the years, and now in modern day.
